Description:  english ebooks identification

Definition

The ebook identification, uniquely identifies an ebook, or a collection of ebooks. In that later case, it will be needed to add a volume identifier. It is a sequential identifier.

Standard exerp

Every metadata section must include at least one identifier element containing an unambiguous identifier for the Publication. Multiple identifier elements are permitted, but only one can be marked as the Unique Identifier via the package element unique-identifier attribute.

Usage

General form of the openosi english ebook identifier:

oid:<OID prefix>.<language_code>.<the_ebook_en_id>

  • OID prefix is: 1.3.6.1.4.1.27630.4
  • Language code is "2"
  • The ebook_en identifier is a sequential number, greater than "1", registered in the openosi namespace. It identifies uniquely a digital book (ebook), or a collection, in the openosi namespace, therefore in the oid namespace. Therefore it builds a global unique identifier, that is the unique identifier value.

Unique identifier value: oid:1.3.6.1.4.1.27630.4.2.ebook_en

Example for a single book in english with an ebook identifier=10 :

<package ... unique-identifier="oid:1.3.6.1.4.1.27630.4.2.10">
    <metadata xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">
        <dc:identifier id="oid:1.3.6.1.4.1.27630.4.2.10">urn:oid:1.3.6.1.4.1.27630.4.2.10</dc:identifier>
	<meta refines="#oid:1.3.6.1.4.1.27630.4.2.10" property="identifier-type" scheme="onix:codelist5">01</meta>
        ...
    </metadata>
</package>

Example for a volume in an english collection with a collection identifier=10 and a volume identifier=3:

<package ... unique-identifier="oid:1.3.6.1.4.1.27630.4.2.10.3">
    <metadata xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">
        <dc:identifier id="oid:1.3.6.1.4.1.27630.4.2.10.3">urn:oid:1.3.6.1.4.1.27630.4.2.10.3</dc:identifier>
	<meta refines="#oid:1.3.6.1.4.1.27630.4.2.10.3" property="identifier-type" scheme="onix:codelist5">01</meta>
        ...
    </metadata>
</package>

Example for a volume in an english collection with a collection identifier=10 and a volume identifier=3 and an ISBN of 9999999999999:

<package ... unique-identifier="oid:1.3.6.1.4.1.27630.4.2.10.3">
    <metadata xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">
        <dc:identifier id="oid:1.3.6.1.4.1.27630.4.2.10.3">urn:oid:1.3.6.1.4.1.27630.4.2.10.3</dc:identifier>
	<meta refines="#oid:1.3.6.1.4.1.27630.4.2.10.3" property="identifier-type" scheme="onix:codelist5">01</meta>
        <dc:identifier id="isbn:9999999999999">urn:isbn:9999999999999</dc:identifier>

        ...
    </metadata>
</package>
Standard exerp

The Unique Identifier is less granular than the ISBN. However, significant revision, abridgement, etc. of the content requires a new Unique Identifier.
